Malden plans to relocate playground fixtures

The Malden Town Council is in the process of making plans for the Malden park, where they plan to relocate the playground fixtures to be at more convenient locations. The equipment is currently far from the community center and bathrooms and is not well-shaded, according to Karen Wallace, town clerk/treasurer. The project is expected to be completed through volunteer work later this fall.

The playground in Malden could soon be getting a facelift. The Malden Town Council at its meeting Wednesday, July 13, discussed changing the layout of the park to better serve the needs of the community.

“Currently the equipment sits at the far end of the park away from the community center where the bathrooms are and in a spot that doesn't have much shade,” said Karen Wallace, Malden town clerk/treasurer. “We want to move it in a more shaded area where its easier for parents to watch their children play.”

The move is one that should not require a lot of funding, Wallace said.

“Most of the equipment is already in place, and repair costs will be minimal,” she said.

As for the labor, the town is hoping for a volunteer force to assist with making the changes.

“We're hoping for some volunteers to get it done in a weekend,” Wallace said.

Wallace said the timeline for the restructuring and renovation would be sometime in the fall after harvest. She added that the park gets a “fair amount of use” in the summer.

The council did a walkthrough during its meeting last week to view the needed changes and decide on a game plan.

“We're just wanting to do a little renovation and restructuring,” she said. “It's very exciting. The council is all for it.”
