State hoops format discussed

A group of interested parties in Washington state high school sports have begun discussions about the format of the state basketball tournaments.

Overseen by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), the group is made up of WIAA board members, coaches, athletic directors and superintendents. Under consideration is the eight-team state format, which changed from a 16-team layout in 2011.

Later this year, a questionnaire will be sent to stakeholders around the state asking for input.
