Etcetera August 4

This Jan Gordon Brown painting, titled “Longhorns,” can be viewed at the Dahmen Barn.

Potlatch artist set for Dahmen

Dahmen Barn will present paintings by Jan Gordon Brown of Potlatch, Idaho, Aug. 4 through Aug. 28. A reception is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14.

Brown has been illustrating and painting in oils, her preferred medium, off and on for more than five decades. She has worked independently and developed her own style and techniques. Although most of her work is in oil, due to the length of time required for drying, she occasionally sets aside unfinished work and picks up her pencils and/or charcoal or ink to practice line technique.

She and her husband retired to Potlatch in 2001, and she retrieved her paint box, brushes and unused canvases from storage. She participated in the Moscow Artwalk 2012, 2013 and 2016 and in the Pullman Artwalk last year. She currently has several paintings, limited edition prints and cards for sale in the Dahmen Barn.

Spokane duo set at Dahmen

Greg and Caridwen Spatz from Spokane will be featured in the fifth Dahmen Barn concert Saturday, Aug. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the new air-conditioned event space. They will showcase fiddle and twin-fiddle playing from a gamut of styles - Celtic, eastern European, French Canadian, old-time and bluegrass. Caridwen will sing haunting and multilingual vocals. She has been hailed as having a voice "made for Celtic music - lyrical, ethereal, expressive, flexible and utterly charming” and she is just as at home singing in Gaelic or English.

Admission will be $15 and tickets are for sale at the door beginning at 6:15. Beer and Wawawai Canyon wine will be for sale to those age 21 and over.
