'Kiss the Pig' ballot jars now at local businesses

The Colfax and Community Fund has placed donation "ballot" jars at local businesses for the Kiss the Pig contest that will conclude at the Palouse Empire Fair this year.

The jars are located at Les Schwab, Colfax City Hall, Tick Klock Drugstore and the Colfax branch of the Whitman County Library.

Contestants in the contest include County Commissioner Michael Largent, Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers, Colfax Unified Executive Director Valoree Gregory and Colfax Mayor Todd Vanek.

The contestant who receives the most donations will be selected to kiss a pig at the fair Saturday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds event center. The winner will be announced there.

Funds can also be donated online at the Colfax and Community Fund PayPal account.

The funds raised for the kiss the pig contest will go toward helping the fund, which begins annually in October, to reach its $25,000 fundraising goal this year.

Commissioner Largent was reported by Jeannette Solimine to be the first to receive a donation in his jar at the Colfax Rotary meeting July 28. However, it was reported Aug. 6 through the fund's Facebook page that Sheriff Myers had pulled ahead, with Largent being bumped to second. Gregory and Vanek were reported to be “a distant third and fourth.”
