WILLIAM BARTLETT
William W. “Bill” Bartlett, 91, longtime Potlatch resident, died Aug. 6, 2016, at the Henderson House in Colfax. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at the Potlatch Lutheran Presbyterian Building. A reception will follow at the Princeton Community Center.
Born April 7, 1925, in Colfax to William R. and Anne Jessen Bartlett, he was raised in Albion and attended school there. He served in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic and was stationed in Germany, Alaska, Minnesota and South Dakota. After serving six years in the military, he went to work for his brother at Bartlett Logging Company. He also worked as a mechanic at the Richfield and Texaco stations in Potlatch and for Bennett Lumber for many years as a mechanic before retiring at age 62.
He married Norma R. Conroy on Jan. 4, 1948, in Rapid City, S.D. They celebrated 68 years of marriage this past January. He enjoyed camping, fishing and boating and was also an expert well witcher. He located more than 50 wells in the Potlatch area, including for Bennett Lumber and the City of Potlatch. He also enjoyed gardening, farming and tending to livestock.
Surviving are his wife, Norma, at the family home in Potlatch; daughters Sherry Woolverton and Raedean Scholfield of Potlatch; four grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his son, Skip’s, family. He was preceded in death by a son.
SUSAN JANE PARKER
An informal celebration of the life of Susan Jane Parker, 66, will be Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, starting at 2 p.m. at the family home on Parvin Road. She died Saturday, July 30, 2016.
Born Jan. 18, 1950, to Garland and Jane Christie Porter in Helena, Mont., she moved with her family to Spokane Valley and graduated from University High School. She attended Spokane Community College and received an associate's degree in computer science.
She moved to Nevada with Lee Parker in 2001, and they were married Dec. 7, 2003. They enjoyed 13 years of marriage together and had just recently moved to Palouse from Nevada to be closer to family.
Susan had an extensive work history as an office manager, both in Washington and Nevada before she retired. She was a member of the LRTC Wild Horse Mentors, Girl Scouts of America and the board of directors for the Washington State PTA. In 1985 she received a presidential commendation from Ronald Reagan for developing an anti-drug education program that was the precursor to the DARE program.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, her horses Triston and Harry and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Lee Parker of Palouse; children Athena Bemel of Garfield and Fox Cutter of Renton; siblings Linda Stutzman of Sandpoint and Stephen Porter of Spokane, and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions are suggested to go to any worthy charity for breast cancer research.
LISA SWIM
A memorial service for Lisa Swim, 59, a resident of Colfax for 11 years, was Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Bruning Funeral Chapel in Colfax. She died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at her home in Colfax.
Born Feb. 27, 1957, in Spokane, she was one of 16 children. She moved to Dreamworks Residential in Colfax March 18, 2005, and worked at Boost Collaborative in Pullman where she sorted items for the thrift store.
She enjoyed listening to country music, drinking coffee and getting her nails painted.
