Pullman Regional Hospital will offer a 10-week Aging Mastery Program with classes beginning Sept. 9. Registration is now open. The program has been developed by the National Council on Aging and is geared toward helping older individuals to develop strategies to help them navigate longer lives and age well.
“It's a series program, and the whole series is designed to assist seniors and boomers in making impactful and lasting changes in their lives,” said Noel Nicolai, education coordinator at the hospital.
This is the second time the hospital has offered the program. Nicolai said she had 30 participants the first time session earlier this year. She said she brings in professionals to address different topics at each meeting, such as a pharmacist to address medication management. She said the program opens doors for participants.
“It's about looking at life and getting more out of it,” she said. “It's looking at life for seniors as them being vital members of the community, and it's helping them see other people and connect with people they may not have known.”
Nicolai said she has been coordinating education programs at the hospital for 10 years, and this one is her favorite because it offers individuals the chance to look at time as a gift.
Pullman Regional Hospital was one of 13 organizations in Washington selected to offer the Aging Mastery Program, and one of only 26 in the nation. It is the only program in eastern Washington.
Cost to participate is $30 for the entire 10 weeks. Nicolai said they can offer a scholarship if the fee is too expensive.
She added a graduation rite will follow the 10-week session.
