Raymond L. Brooks

Raymond L. Brooks, 70, a resident of Rosalia, died Aug. 26, 2016, at home.

Raymond was born July 23, 1946, in Council, Idaho, to James and Lois Prest Brooks.

The family moved to Bates, Ore., when he was a young boy.

He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1964.

Raymond entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War, spending time on the Oak Hill LSD-7 and Ticonderoga.

He married Patsy Hutchison May 27, 1966, in Bates, Ore.

Raymond was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1977.

They moved to San Diego where he began a career as a diesel mechanic in the shipyards.

During the 1980s, Raymond and his family lived in Mount Vernon, Ore., when he worked at Malheur Lumber Co. in John Day, Ore.

In 1993, Raymond took a job at Fairbanks Morse in Washington where he worked until his retirement in 2003.

He enjoyed working on anything mechanical and was always willing to help a neighbor, friend or family. He enjoyed camping with his family in the Blue Mountains. Raymond was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy Brooks of Rosalia; son Neil Brooks (Heidi) of Redmond, Ore .; two daughters, Dawn (Bruce) Polley, Rosalia, and Tia (Joe) Barrietua, John Day, Ore .; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Raymond will be laid to rest at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake.

Tureda M. Candler

A memorial service for Tureda M. Candler, 87, resident of Potlatch for 63 years, was Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho, with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. Urn burial was at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Potlatch.

Mrs. Candler died the morning of Aug. 14, 2016, at the family home in Potlatch.

Born Aug. 8, 1929, in Genesee, Idaho, to Chester and Ramona Walker Sams, she attended school at Genesee until the eighth grade when she moved with her family to Juliaetta where she graduated with the class of 1947.

She met Neil L. Candler while in high school, and they were married April 10, 1948, in Asotin. They moved to Potlatch in 1953 and have resided there since.

A homemaker for most of her life, she worked at restaurants and operated the Lil’ Wrangler Café in Potlatch for 10 years until they retired in 1994. She enjoyed collecting bells, cookbooks, crystal and brass. They spent 17 winters in Arizona.

Survivors include her husband, Neil; sons Ronald (Bonnie) Candler and Rodney (Cheryl) Candler, both of Potlatch; daughters Linda (Dan) Adair of Moses Lake, Cindy (Rob) Burris of Lewiston and Terri (Larry) Brunton of Potlatch; 30 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Armetha Corwin and Adetta Coomer, both of Lewiston. She was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Candler in 2011 and Rusty Candler in 1963; a daughter, Shari Fiscus in 2008, and grandson Jeremy Burris.

The family suggests memorial donations go to the Potlatch Fire and Ambulance Fund, Box 63, Potlatch, Idaho, 83855.
