Can school kids learn to love math as much as recess? According to educational experts, the answer is, "Yes!"
The Whitman County Library will combine literacy and math for an over-the-top after-school club designed to gets kids fired up about numbers. Library branches in Palouse, Tekoa, St. John and Colfax are host locations for Crazy 8s Clubs for wacky math adventures provided by the Bedtime Math Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to put fun and discovery back into learning math.
Colfax and Palouse library branches are in Crazy 8s Club, Season 3, working with WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement. The college students act as coaches and help guide the kids through engaging activities. Crazy 8s is recreational, not “schoolwork,” but the activities align with the Common Core State Standards.
Whitman County Library's Crazy 8s is designed for groups of 10-20 kids at three age levels. Contact your local branch for availability, dates and times.
