STOLEN VALOR ORDINANCE

An ordinance which would make it unlawful for individuals to fraudulently claim they are the recipients of a military medal or decoration in order to obtain money or donations has been proposed to the city council.

In the Sept. 6 council agenda listing, City Administrator Michael Rizzitiello noted city police have received reports of individuals who have sought goods and services by fraudulently claiming to be military personnel.

The report notes the state does not have a stolen valor type ordinance on the books, but it is a criminal offense under U.S. code.

Introduction of the proposed city ordinance had been scheduled for Tuesday night’s council session, but it was delayed to a later session.

Colfax MAN HURT IN ROLLOVER

Zachary Williams, Colfax, sustained neck injuries early Aug. 31 when he lost control of a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck which rolled several times after going off Highway 195 three miles north of Colfax. According to the Washington State Patrol report, Williams was driving southbound at 12:09 a.m. when the Ranger crossed the centerline and two northbound lanes and went onto the northbound shoulder. He attempted to turn back onto the highway, but that caused the truck to roll several times into a plowed field before it came to a stop on the driver’s side. A Colfax ambulance crew transported Williams to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center.
