TRACK ASPHALT IN PLACE

Crews from Motley & Motley worked late Sept. 13 to complete the paving layer for the Colfax track reconstruction at Schmuck Park. The asphalt will now have to undergo two weeks of curing before the layers of latex track surface can be applied, according to track coach Jason Cooper.

Beynon Sports Surfaces of Tualatin, Ore., will be the contractor for application on the track surface. Todd Grimes from Beynon was on the scene this week when the asphalt base was applied.

Cooper said the track surface needs to be applied in a continuous mode when that operation starts. After the track surface is applied, another week of curing will be required before the track lines can be painted.

Also, work is now underway to restore the sprinkler system at the field. The system had been shut down to prepare for the asphalt, but now that it is in place the sprinklers can be operated.

The field is expected to be ready for the next Colfax football game which is scheduled for Sept. 23 against Northwest Christian. The new asphalt will be covered with mats to allow teams to cross to the football field inside the track.

OPTS FOR QUICK COURT PROCESS

James Hoyt, 57, Elberton, Sept. 9 opted to enter a plea to a charge of possession of methamphetamine after being arrested on Elberton Road five days earlier. A deputy Sept. 4 responded to a report of a vehicle parked partially on Elberton Road with an unconscious driver about one-half of a mile from Dry Creek Road and located Hoyt.

Hoyt was initially arrested for driving with a suspended license, but he was later found to be in possession of a baggie containing methamphetamine and was formally charged Sept. 8.

He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for time served since his arrest and allowed to work off the balance of the sentence with community service. He was also fined $1,000 for drug possession and ordered to pay $800 in fines and fees.

A second charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.

Colfax RECEIVES CERB GRANT
