Colfax second graders plant tulip trees

Second-grade Jenning’s Elementary students planted two trees on Thursday, Sept. 22, at Schmuck Park in observance of Arbor Day. The trees are planted with a marker provided by Colfax Monument. Second-grade teachers are Bev Stubbers and Bobbi Mackleit. A total of 48 people participated in the project. Molly Rice and Parks Supervisor Steve Larkin assisted. Larkin noted the Colfax Arbor Day observance is done in the fall because tree planting at this time of year has a better rate of success. This is the 12th year of the observance.

Ty Scott takes his turn at shoveling dirt into the planting bed as Tena Allison, Brody George and Hallee Palmer (left to right) observe. The students planted two tulip trees in the area of the playground equipment at the north end of the park. The students will periodically observe and record changes to the trees as part of their science curriculum.
