GIRL SAID HURT IN FIGHT

Colfax Police Sept. 28 responded to a report of a dispute involving four junior-high age girls outside of the library on Main Street in Colfax. The girls had been asked to leave the library after the dispute, according to the police report.

A Colfax ambulance was dispatched at 4:55 p.m. to transport one of the girls to Whitman Hospital from her residence after she complained of pain in her neck from an injury which she allegedly sustained in the fight.

FAIR EYES TURNOFF LANE PROPOSAL

Palouse Empire Fair Manager Bob Reynolds Sept. 26 reported a turnoff lane from Highway 26 is under consideration by the state highway department. Reynolds said the turnoff lane could supplant the present general entry to the fair from Endicott Road on the east side of the fairground.

One of the major projects looming for the fair will be a major repair or replacing of the entry bridge which crosses Rebel Flat Creek at the entrance to the grounds. The fair actually has two bridges over the creek on that side of the grounds with one span getting high use during the fair when vehicles cross to enter the fair’s general parking lot.

One suggested alternative for the aging bridge would be installation of a large culvert.

One concern about a proposed turn lane would be how an entry from Highway 26 would come onto the grounds. That south side area of the fairground along the highway is now used for campers for horse exhibitors and rodeo participants at the fair.

DELTA CASE AWAITS LAB REPORTS

The Pullman Police investigation of the alleged sexual assault at the Delta Upsilon fraternity is now awaiting results from the state crime lab. An update on the case issued Sept. 28 by Pullman Chief Gary Jenkins said detectives have conducted additional witness interviews in the investigation.

The investigation started Sept. 2 when police were notified of a possible sexual assault victim who was being treated at Pullman Regional Hospital. An 18-year-old WSU student reported she had been provided alcohol at Delta Upsilon and was sexually assaulted. Police were called by the hospital the next day to contact a 17-year-old WSU student who also reported she had been provided alcohol at the fraternity.

A warrant search was conducted at the fraternity and a possible suspect was interviewed. The WSU office of student conduct was also notified of the investigation.

Chief Jenkins reported Sept. 28 that members of the Delta Upsilon fraternity have been cooperative throughout the investigation.
