Serving Whitman County since 1877
Members of WSU's Sigma Chi fraternity put up framing in the Roy M. Chatters Printing Museum in Palouse Sept. 30 to convert the museum to a temporary haunt site.
Construction has begun for the 15th year of Palouse's two-weekend annual fundraiser, Haunted Palouse. The event has generated $464,693 to date to support numerous Palouse projects and groups.
Put on with all-volunteer labor, crews of 30 will work Saturdays, Sundays and many evenings leading up to Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-29.
Beneficiaries of proceeds for 2016 will be Palouse Community Center, Gar/Pal FFA, Garfield/Palouse Athletic Club, Palouse Skate Park & Tony Kettel Skate Gardens, Sciborgs Palouse Area Robotics Team (4H), Palouse Chamber of Commerce and the Roy M. Chatters Newspaper and Printing Museum.
Organizers still seek volunteers and support. Aside from building and acting inside the haunted firehouse and printing museum, feeding the volunteers is another part of the operation.
“Cookies, pop, snacks are always appreciated to keep the workers going and can be dropped off on weekends at the museum or the former fire station below the police station,” said Janet Barstow, longtime volunteer.
Financial donations to the Haunted Palouse account at McLeod's Palouse Market help offset the cost of feeding volunteers.
Anyone interested in volunteering – builders, actors, fortune tellers, street entertainers and childcare for volunteers' kids – can call Barstow at (509) 878-1742.
