John Rodgers
John (Jack) Rodgers, 75, long-time Colfax resident, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at his home. A memorial service will be at Bruning Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating.
He was born in Colfax Feb. 17, 1941, to Dale and Esther (Schweiger) Rodgers.
The family lived in Colfax and in Oregon while his father was working on dam projects.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1959 during his senior year of high school and learned to be a welder and machinist.
He met Marguerite (Peggy) Deify of Spangle while she was working in Colfax, and they were married in Spangle May 21, 1966.
Two weeks later, Jack was recalled into the Navy and served during the Vietnam War.
His tour of duty ended in 1967, and he returned home to Colfax.
They moved to Renton in 1969 where Jack learned his trade as an electrician.
They moved back to Colfax in October 1979 and have resided here since.
He worked as a self-employed electrician and also did farm work.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an active member of the Colfax Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy, at their Colfax home; two daughters, Ava (Mike) Trask of San Antonio, Texas, and Sandy Rodgers, Spokane Valley; brothers and sisters, Bill (Julia) Rodgers of Colfax, Colleen (Randall) Mick, Dale Rodgers, Mary (Jack) Reed and Paula Rodgers; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Jack W. Wood
Jack L. Wood, 89, Colfax, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Whitman Health and Rehabilitation. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Colfax Cemetery.
Born in Colfax Oct. 5, 1926, to Frank and Ethel (Hall) Wood, he grew up in Colfax, attended Mockonema School and graduated from Colfax High School. Jack attended Washington State College, where he received his bachelor degree in agriculture science. Following college, Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Colfax where he worked for several years at various seed companies. Jack later went to work for the USDA, where he spent his entire career as a soil conservationist until his retirement.
He and Marcella Bellmont were married in Spokane Oct. 1, 1977. She preceded him in death in 1990.
On April 20, 1991, Jack married Shirley Beaudry in Spokane. Together they have made their home in Colfax and Spokane for the past 25 years. Jack enjoyed walking the fields, taking soil samples, hunting, fishing, gardening and fruit trees.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; daughter Deborah (Terry) Killinger and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a son, David L. Wood, in 1992.
