Gar/Pal to honor veterans

Lt. Col. William O. Barefield, Arlington National Cemetery,

Army Chaplain retired.

Garfield and Palouse schools will host their annual Veteran’s Day Assembly in the Garfield/Palouse Middle School Gym in Garfield at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. The ceremony is a celebration of our veterans, particularly our local heroes, and a reminder to all our students and families of the great service and sacrifice that these men and women have made on behalf of our country.

The assembly will feature special guest speaker Lt. Col. William O. Barefield, Arlington National Cemetery, Army Chaplain retired. Special recognition will also be given to WWII veteran Donald Schmick.

Special performances will include Jim Swoboda of the Spokane Symphony performing “Bring Him Home” featuring harpist Hanna Strong.

The Garfield/Palouse/ Oakesdale Elementary singers will perform “You Are Our Heroes” to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

All residents of the local communities are welcome to attend this special event.
