Veterans Day assembly at Garfield

Garfield Middle School's annual Veterans' Day assembly is today, Nov. 10, at 9:30 a.m.

Scheduled to appear are U.S. Army Chaplain William Barefield, retired, and Jim Swoboda of the Spokane Symphony. A special presentation will be given to Don Schmick of Colfax, 93, a World War II veteran.

Barefield, a former pastor at Garfield Community Church, spent 26 years as an Army chaplain and earned a Bronze Star in Operation Desert Storm (1991). He also spent part of his career at Arlington National Cemetery.
