Marguerite Schneider
Marguerite Schneider, 93, a Tekoa resident for the past five years, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at her rural Tekoa home.
Born Oct. 5, 1923, in Clark County, Kan., to Chester and Bessie Booth Bare, she attended schools in Kansas and graduated from high school in Protection, Kan. She attended Kansas State University where she studied home economics.
Marguerite married George Schneider, Jr., a mechanical engineer, and they lived in several areas in the Midwest. Marguerite worked as a clerk in an electronics store, a soda jerk and cake decorator. The couple moved to western Washington in 1957 where Mr. Schneider worked for Boeing. They were later divorced.
She went to work for the state Department of Social and Health Services in Seattle as a financial eligibility examiner until she retired in 1988. Following her retirement, she made her home on Whidbey Island for the next 23 years. Marguerite moved to Tekoa in 2011 to live with her son.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a 75-year member of the Eastern Star Star Of Hope Chapter in Greensburg, Kan.
Survivors include her son Don (Angelica) Schneider of Tekoa, a daughter, Diane Schneider, Whidbey Island, one grandchild and siblings Chet Bare and Ruby Swanson.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Her cremains will be placed in Highland Cemetery in Ashland, Kan.
