“Big Blue” recently received a fresh paint job, which Colfax Public Works Director Matt Hammer said should last about 20 years. The Fairview water tower also received a new coating.
The City of Colfax recently took on the job of painting two water towers. “Big Blue” and the Fairview tower both recently received paint jobs.
“They are both painted now,” said Matt Hammer, city public works director.
The Fairview water tower received its paint job in September, while Big Blue underwent a paint job in October.
“Neither had been painted since they were constructed,” said Hammer.
The Fairview water tower was constructed in the late '60s, while Big Blue was erected in 1996. Hammer said the job on the Fairview tower was “more of a coating.”
“It was a galvanized coating,” he said.
The work on that tower, which holds 600,000 gallons, was completed by J&L Company NE out of Veradale. The cost of the job was $25,875.
Big Blue's job was a full paint job, Hammer said. The ticket came in at $46,530 for the 1.5 million gallon capacity tank. The work on Big Blue was completed by Pioneer Water Proofing, Spokane Valley.
Hammer said the Big Blue paint job would likely be good for 20 years. He expects the coating on the Fairview water tower to endure for a long time as well.
