Serving Whitman County since 1877
After 22 years of publishing, the final issue of the St. John Community Current was published by Becky Dickerson last week.
Dickerson began the publication after she moved to St. John with her husband Todd Dickerson. She had graduated in journalism and communications from Eastern Washington University. She told the Gazette in September that owning and operating a newspaper was her “dream.”
“It was my dream since I was a little girl to own a newspaper,” she said. “I fell in love with and married a farmer, and I wanted to use my degree. I worked hard for that.”
Dickerson got her start in St. John by reaching out to businesses in the community there with a letter asking for support. She started by publishing monthly with 12 issues per year, and her first issue was 12 tab pages. More recently, Dickerson was publishing four times a year as she stepped back to take care of her health.
The final issue was mailed to subscribers Wednesday, Nov. 9. Dickerson put her final touches on it Monday, Nov. 7, and sent it to the press the following morning.
