Council issues call for mural design

Palouse Arts Council is seeking submissions for proposals for a painted mural at Tony Kettel Skate Gardens, now under construction along Whitman Street in downtown Palouse.

Artists from around the Inland Northwest are invited to apply.

A commission of $650 for the selected artist will be provided by the council.

The selected artist will be responsible for the purchase of their supplies. The council will be responsible for priming the surface of the mural.

Execution of the mural project is to begin next spring and be finished by late summer.

The arts council seeks to provide the area artists with an opportunity to develop a mural project that will capture the spirit of the skate park, the Tony Kettel Skate Gardens and the Palouse area.

Deadline for submissions will be Feb. 1, 2017.

The submissions will be juried by a selection panel made up of the skate park board. Submissions must contain an illustration of the artist's concept for the mural and a written description.

Organizers prefer that artists making submissions visit the park site before making a submission. The mural site is at 220 E. Whitman St. in downtown Palouse.

The image chosen is to be painted on a 12-foot by six-foot concave concrete wall.

The council asks that words or script or any graphic images that could be disturbing to children or families not be in the submissions.

Palouse Arts Council, a non-profit organization formed to sponsor and encourage cultural and educational activities in Palouse and its surrounding area, is working in partnership with the Palouse Skate Park on this project. The skate park is also a non-profit organization. For more information, contact [email protected].
