Serving Whitman County since 1877
The annual Colfax Giving Tree, sponsored by the Colfax Eagles, will start up again at the end of this week. The aim of the tree is to provide gifts to children in the community.
The trees will be set up at Columbia Bank, U.S. Bank and the post office with ornament tags bearing a description of the recipient and clothing gift needs.
“People can pick an ornament, take the information and buy for the child,” said Gail Webster, one of the organizers. “They bring it back to where they got the ornament.”
The Giving Tree drive is for clothing only, and all donations stay local. Last year, there were about 100 children served by the trees, and Webster said she expects it to be around the same this year.
Applications to be a recipient from the Giving Tree are available at the Department of Social and Health Services, Whitman County Health Department, Council on Aging and the Colfax Eagles. Applications are due by Dec. 15.
All donations will be distributed before Christmas.
Webster said financial contributions are also welcomed, and those can be donated to the Eagles Giving Tree account at U.S. Bank.
Anyone with questions can contact Webster at 509-592-3101 or the Eagles at 509-397-3611.
