Southeast 1B league boys and girls basketball has begun around the county. With teams starting with non-league contests last week, Friday night will bring the league opener for several local teams. Colton boys and girls play Pomeroy at home, and Garfield/ Palouse plays at Oakesdale.
Garfield/Palouse 79, Lakeside 55
Five Vikings scored in double figures in a home non-league win Tuesday night. Daniel Orfe led with 18 points while freshman Blake Jones had 15 and Erik Anderson 12. Mason Bates and Ely Hawkins each scored 10.
Anderson added nine rebounds while Bates had eight.
The Vikings will play at Oakesdale Friday in their first league game of the year.
Garfield/ Palouse 54, Tekoa/Rosalia 28
Mason Bates had 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Vikings dismissed non-league Tekoa/Rosalia at Palouse Dec. 3.
Colton 57, Genesee 38
Genesee outscored the Wildcats 21-8 in the second quarter to take control at Colton Dec. 3. Trevor Stout led Genesee with 22 points in the game while Coy Stout added nine. Peter Schultheis and Brady Chadwick led Colton each with 11 points while Grant Kinzer scored eight.
GIRLS
Troy 54,
Oakesdale 46
Key free throws in the second overtime helped Troy outlast Oakesdale in a non-league game at Troy Dec. 3. The Trojans' Katy Doumit scored two baskets in the last minute of the first overtime to force another. Finally, Troy (5-1) outscored Oakesdale 10-2 in the second overtime to take the game.
Logan Reed led the Nighthawks with 21 points.
Colton 53,
Genesee 26
Colton picked up its second win of the year when eight players scored with each of them hitting a three-pointer. Dakota Patchen led with 12 points while Georgia Meyer had 11 and Kendyl Druffel had 10. Meghan Devorak added nine rebounds.
