Bulldog wrestlers book two tournament stands

Colfax and Garfield/Palouse wrestlers will be in action in back-to-back tournaments today and Friday. The Bulldogs will head south today for their annual stop at the Pomeroy tournament and then turn around and head north tomorrow for the Christmas tournament at Freeman.

Last Thursday the Bulldogs wrapped up the pre-Christmas part of their schedule at the big Tri-County Classic tournament at Central Valley.

Colfax was among 24 teams entered in the big CV show which brought in wrestlers from schools of all sizes.

Chris Jones had one of the highlight matches of the tourney when he came within seconds of pegging a win in the semi-final of the 145-pound class. Jones had a 4-1 lead before he was caught in a headlock by his opponent, who then scored a takedown and near fall in the last 14 seconds to erase the early lead posted by Jones. The winner in the semi went on to take the 145 title.

Jones sustained a loss in the consolation final to finish fourth.

Dane Hall won the consolation B bracket with a 4-1 record in the 152 class, and Augie Allenbach placed second with a 2-2 record in the 220 class.

Nolan Burrill placed third at 106 with a 2-1 record.

Also wrestling were Garrett Phillips, 0-2 at 113, Dalton Pressnall, 1-2 at 145, and John Nelson, 0-2 at 220.
