Southeast 1B chugs through Christmas

Basketball action paused before Christmas this week while a few games still took place.

After the holiday, gyms fill again with tournament games and others set for this weekend.

For Southeast 1B girls, St. John/Endicott is playing at the Dec. 29-30 Reardan Christmas tournament. Garfield/Palouse will play at Potlatch Dec. 30. Oakesdale was set to play Dec. 27 at Dayton followed by a Jan. 3 home game against Valley Christian. Colton played next on Dec. 28 against Cashmere.

Colton 53,

Touchet 50

In Touchet, it was tough again for the Colton girls, winning 53-50 in a tight game Dec. 20 to keep their 24-game winning streak alive.

Colton (7-0, 4-0 in league) held the Indians to no points in the final two minutes, 11 seconds.

Sophomore Dakota Patchen led Colton with 21 points on seven three-pointers, while Jordan Moehrle, another sophomore, added 12 points and six rebounds. Kendyl Druffel scored five points with eight rebounds.

Katie Skramstad led Touchet (4-2, 2-2) with 18 points while Dana Jagger had 11.

Last year Colton won at Touchet 58-55 and beat them two other times during their run to an eighth-straight state 1B championship.

The Wildcats were set to play Cashmere Wednesday, Dec. 28.

BOYS

Southeast 1B boys play stopped for Christmas then resumed with tournament play. This weekend, full schedules return, for the most part.

Colton was set to play Dec. 28 against Tonasket at the West Valley (Spokane) tournament. St. John/Endicott plays Dec. 29-30 at the Christmas tourney in Reardan. Garfield/Palouse plays Dec. 30 at Potlatch. Oakesdale was set to play Dec. 27 at Dayton.

Colton 71, Lake Roosevelt 45

Playing on day one of the Eagle Classic tournament, Dec. 27, at West Valley High in Spokane, Grant Kinzer led Colton with 22 points and eight rebounds in a first-round win. Brady Chadwick added 19 points and nine rebounds while Reece Chadwick had 13 points and four steals.

Colton advanced to play Tonasket Wednesday night.
