Serving Whitman County since 1877
New members are sought for Whitman County's solid waste advisory committee which meets once per quarter on a Tuesday afternoon at the Public Service building in Colfax.
“We're trying to drum up business because we have a couple issues we'd like to have input on,” said Mark Storey, Whitman County Public Works director.
These issues include creation of a new five-year solid waste management plan and a new operating plan, being worked on now by David Nails, the county's Solid Waste and Recycling director.
“We would like to have someone from each of the communities in the county,” said Nails.
As of now six members make up the committee, with room for as many as 18. Its next meeting will be March 14.
“I would like to see half that number of vacancies as we move into spring,” Storey said. “Anyone that has an interest we'll seriously consider. It's not a committee that has a lot of curb appeal.”
