NWC faces Bulldogs after 5-0 NE north run

Colfax boys start the hoop swing through the NE teams on the north side as the co-leader from the south side with a 4-1 mark. The Bulldogs are slated to roll to Colbert Friday to play Northwest Christian. They will return home Saturday where they are scheduled to play Wilbur/Creston.

Colfax over the next three weeks will play all six of the teams on the north side before starting the last league lap, another five-game run of the south side.

Friday's host, Northwest Christian, is rolling on a 5-0 record on the north side. They have three starters back from last year's championship team and so far look like they will be the league's power club.

Colfax Dec. 28 defeated Okanogan 66-56 to finish with a split in the Eagle Classic basketball tournament at West Valley. Half of the Colfax points came off 11 three-point shots with Carson Cloaninger and Caleb Berquist each hitting four and Jaydon Soncarty three.

Soncarty finished with 26 points to lead the Bulldogs in the second round game at the West Valley Classic. Colfax cemented the win with 24 points in the last quarter with 15 of the rally points coming off trey shots.

They went into the final frame trailing by two points, but the trey shots began to fall.

"It was a two-point game, and all of a sudden boom, boom, boom," coach Reece Jenkin said.

He noted the Bulldog shooters picked up the shots outside of the perimeter when Okanogan dropped into a zone defense.

Jenkin credited his crew with bouncing back for the win after they were clobbered be East Valley 22-58 in the first round of the tournament the previous night. Colfax scored just seven points in the first half against the Knights who play in the state's double A division.

The Bulldogs played the two non-league games at West Valley without top scorer Danny Robinson who was with his family on a holiday trip.

Wilbur/Creston will visit Colfax Saturday after posting a 2-3 mark on the north side and a 3-5 overall record before the holiday break.
