Nicole Wiley of Diamond has been honored with the Girl Scout Gold Award, culminating 13 years in Girl Scouts, including nearly 3,000 boxes of cookies sold.
A 2016 Colfax High School graduate, Wiley is now studying music education at Eastern Washington University.
She earned the Gold distinction after a completing a minimum 60-hour project during her senior year in which she put on an anti-bullying program for three classes at Jennings Elementary.
Wiley's program was given in a series of presentations to each class, built on her “SAFE” theme: “Say What You Feel, Ask For Help, Find a Friend, Exit the Area.”
Wiley's scout leaders over her time in Troop 2246 include her mother, Mary Wiley, and Andrea Hefty of Pullman.
“My mom lovingly forced me to continue with Girl Scouts in the junior high years,” Wiley said.
With the Gold distinction, she is now a lifetime member of Girl Scouts.
“The skills that they teach you in Girl Scouts – it's such a wide variety of things that prepare you for the world,” Wiley said.
