Vikings boys lose two, drop in standings

With a loss to Pomeroy at home Jan. 6 and a 73-71 loss at Prescott a night later, Garfield/Palouse dropped to 3-3 in league for fourth in the current Southeast 1B standings behind Colton (4-2), Prescott (4-1) and Pomeroy (6-0).

Pomeroy 67, Garfield/Palouse 58

Two nemeses from winters past have begun another as Garfield/Palouse (6-4, 3-3) and Pomeroy met for the first time this season. The Pirates took it, at Palouse, as Jake Tewalt scored 19 points to keep his team unbeaten in league. Ryan Wolf added 15 points for the Pirates (7-1, 5-0) while Mason Bates led Gar/Pal with 14 points and eight rebounds. Ely Hawkins added 14 points. Tanner Anderson and Daniel Orfe each scored eight.

Pomeroy 65, Oakesdale 55

Playing at Pomeroy last Saturday, Oakesdale lost to the unbeaten Pirates. Held to single-digit scoring in the first and second quarters, the Nighthawks also struggled to contain Pomeroy scorers Jace Gwinn (19 points) and Jake Dewalt (17 points).

Matt Hockett led Oakesdale with 11 points while Kieron Anderson scored 10 and Evan Henning nine.

Colton 89, Waitsburg 50

A combined 47 points – and six three-pointers each – from Grant Kinzer and Matt Wolf made for smooth work of Waitsburg in a Colton home win Jan. 7. Kinzer's game-high 27 points came with12 rebounds. The game was tied at the end of the first quarter at 17-17 before Colton began to press on defense. Brady Chadwick scored 14 points for Colton while Peter Schultheis had nine.

Colton 68, St. John/Endicott 47

Brady Chadwick led the Wildcats at home Jan. 6 with 19 points in a league win over the Eagles. Reece Chadwick added 16 for Colton (6-4, 3-2) and Grant Kinzer had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Adam Blakeley led St. John/Endicott with 15 points while Cooper Lundberg had 11.

Touchet 48, St. John/Endicott 46

Griffin Parrish scored 20 points to lead the Eagles (2-8, 1-6) in a loss at Touchet Jan. 7 while Adam Blakeley added 14. Lot Butler led Touchet with 17 points on the night and James Kates had 10.
