SEL employees said threatened

Richard A. Stephens, 45, Pullman, was booked into jail here Jan. 6 after Pullman officers investigated reports of alleged harassment and stalking.

Stephens was arrested by a deputy after a warrant was issued. The Pullman investigation report said Stephens had been sending threatening text messages to employees at Schweitzer Engineering, where he was formerly employed. Police were notified of the messages by a security manager at Schweitzer. One of the three victims of the alleged threats had been a supervisor of the suspect who was fired from his job at SEL last May.

Among other threats in his emails, Stephens advised the present employees that he knew where they lived and advised them to “keep your doors locked and guns loaded.” In one instance he texted, “I’m outside your trashy trailer right now.”

Stephens’ case was remanded to district court Monday after the allegations against him were determined to involve misdemeanors, and he was allowed pre-trial release.
