1B girls: Oakesdale, Colton build on league lead

Both 9-1 in the Southeast 1B league, Oakesdale and Colton picked up more wins this week, including Oakesdale's victory over top 2B team Dayton Monday night in non-league play.

Chasing Oakesdale and Colton in the Southeast 1B are Pomeroy (8-2), Touchet (5-5) and Garfield/Palouse (5-5). With four more league games to play, Colton and Oakesdale will meet again Feb. 4 in Oakesdale. Games this weekend include Oakesdale at Touchet Friday and Colton at Waitsburg Saturday.

Oakesdale 47

Dayton 38

In a non-league trip to Dayton Tuesday night, Jacey Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Nighthawks (9-1, 13-3). Anne Hockett added 10 points. For 2B Dayton (14-1), Jenna Phillips and Shayla Currin each scored 14 points in their first loss of the season.

Gar/Pal 38

Waitsburg 22

Junior Payson Griner scored 13 points with nine rebounds and five steals as the Vikings picked up a league win at Waitsburg. Katie Arrasmith added 16 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Hays and Analisea Araya led Waitsburg with six points each.

Pomeroy 64

SJE 27

Alynn Harder and Riley Lamb both scored six points each to lead the Eagles (0-14, 0-8) in a home loss to the Pirates. Madison Dixon led Pomeroy with 15 points.

Colton 51

Touchet 18

An almost-shutout in the second half highlighted Colton's dismissal of Touchet at home Jan. 21.

With a 17-point lead at halftime, Colton entered the third quarter stifling the Indians. It kept up, and a lone three-pointer were the only points Touchet scored in the second half.

The Colton defense also held leading scorer Katie Skramstad to three points.

Dakota Patchen led the Wildcats with 13 points while Kendyl Druffel had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jordyn Moehrle added 12 points and Abby Kelly scored 11, with nine rebounds.

Colton 56

Pomeroy 33

Breaking a three-way tie for first in the Southeast 1B league, Colton met the Pirates at Pomeroy Jan. 21 and led 16-3 at the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Abby Kelly led the Wildcats with 19 points while Dakota Patchen delivered 15 and Meghan Devorak had 13 rebounds.

Kacey Halbert led Pomeroy with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Oakesdale 79

Prescott 23

Jacey Johnson's 26 points and six assists paced the Nighthawks over the winless Tigers.

Oakesdale scored 20 or more points in the first three quarters. Bianca Flores led Prescott with eight points.

CORRECTION:

In last week's Gazette, an error appeared in the article, “Oakesale ends Colton 66-game streak.” It stated that Oakesdale's Jacey Johnson missed two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game. The missed free throws were actually in overtime when the game was essentially decided.
