Henry M. Larson

Funeral services for Henry M. (Hank) Larson, 75, will be Saturday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Father Robert Erickson will officiate. A reception will follow the service. Mr. Larson died Saturday, Jan, 28, 2017, at his rural DeSmet home. A graveside service will be at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford at a later date.

Born July 17, 1941, at Tekoa to Vernon Larson Sr. and Blanche Pfeifer Larson, he was raised on the family farm south of DeSmet with his brother and two sisters. He attended schools in Plummer, Idaho, where he graduated from high school in 1960. Henry played football and basketball and participated in FFA.

Henry married Marilyn Sturman in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Dec. 11, 1963, and the couple made their home south of DeSmet in a house which he built. Henry later drove truck for Kraft Foods for a few years and worked logging with his son Larry and raised Christmas trees for several years. Henry semi-retired in 2010.

Mr. Larson served on the Plummer High School Board from 1976 until 1980. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had attended several races in Florida at Daytona.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn, at the family home; one son, Henry C. (Stacia) Larson of Englewood, Fla .; daughters Stacy Lynn Trenkle, Englewood, Fla., and Stephanie (Valentine) Mokry of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; brother Vern Larson Jr. of DeSmet; sisters Norma Willms of Post Falls, Idaho, and Mary (Robert) Lewis of Everett, Wash .; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Larry M. Larson, and two grandchildren, Aaron LaSarte and Logan Trenkle.

Loren E. Ochse

The funeral service for Loren E. Ochse, 87, resident of Palouse since 1964, was Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse with Pastor Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. A United States Navy honor guard and Potlatch VFW Post participated.

Mr. Ochse died Jan. 25, 2017, while visiting his daughter in Greybull, Wyo.

Born March 4, 1929, in Pasco to Adelbert and Claire (Wyland) Ochse, he grew up in Pasco and attended school at Longfellow Elementary. After the eighth grade, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on USS Iowa and USS Columbus during the war. While still enlisted and home on short leave, he married Lorraine McKay on July 14, 1947. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in January of 1948 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

After his discharge, they made their home in Pasco, later moved to Spokane and, in 1964, moved to Palouse. Loren worked as a groundskeeper for Washington State University, and he and Lorraine also owned the Palouse Market and operated it for several years. He retired from WSU in 1992.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, in 2014.

Surviving are his children, Loren A. Ochse, Palouse; Loretta (Dale) McDonald, Greybull, Wyo .; Theresa (Brett) Dewitt, Basin, Wyo .; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son Lynn Ochse; daughter, Louise Ochse Love, and one grandson, Brian Albert.
