Lee Books, former pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, and his wife, the former Karen Peacock, will lead worship Sunday, Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Garfield United Methodist Church, 2nd and Union, Garfield.
GP to honor vets
Garfield/Palouse High School is requesting the presence of all area veterans to be honored at the basketball game against Touchet this Saturday, Feb. 4. To participate, veterans are asked to be at the gym at Palouse no later than 4:45 p.m., where Scott Thompson will sing the national anthem before the girls game starts at 5 p.m.
Fly Casters
auction
The biennial auction benefitting Clearwater Fly Casters scholarship fund will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Best Western University Plus Inn, Moscow. Clearwater Fly Casters has awarded $11,500 in university scholarships in the last five years. The public is invited to a silent and live auction featuring a wide array of items. Bidder registration begins at 5:30 with a no-host bar, followed by a dinner buffet ($16) at 6:30. Everyone interested in fly fishing and supporting scholarships is encouraged to attend.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS
Athenaeum
Twenty-five members attended the Dec. 2 Christmas at Events on Main in Colfax. Decorations were provided by the Yearbook Committee and a delicious meal served by the Events on Main staff. They were entertained by Scott Hallett, husband of Sue Hallett, club president. He sang and played the ukulele. One of the songs was a special composition to Sue.
They also had sing-along of Christmas carols.
The first meeting of 2017 was Jan. 20 at Colfax United Methodist Church. Hostess Janice McKay was assisted by Mae Claypool and Sherry Cox. Seventeen members answered roll call. Nancy Herrygers was officially inducted as a member and welcomed into the group. Kay Van Dyke gave a program on composer Richard Rogers.
The Feb. 3 meeting will be hosted by Linda Marler at The Center. The Feb. 17 meeting will be at The Courtyard with Sharon Baum hostess. Starting time for the second meeting will be 1:30 p.m.
Pullman LWV
The Feb. 6 Pullman League of Women Voters meeting will focus on climate change and potential policies to address it.
Virginia Lohr, Bertie Weddell and Judy Meuth, members of the Palouse Citizens Climate Lobby, will serve as panel members to discuss predicted impacts of climate change to the natural world, to human activities such as agriculture and others.
Panel members will also share information on American views on climate change and on several proposed policy solutions, including regulations, cap and trade and taxes.
The panel will concentrate on one solution, placing a revenue-neutral fee on carbon that would be returned to Americans via a monthly dividend.
This proposal has garnered support across the political spectrum.
The program will be Feb. 6 at Umpqua Bank in Pullman beginning at 6:30 p.m. with social time. Discussion will start at 7.
