Four Colfax wrestlers and Travis Knauff of Garfield/Palouse qualified to enter the state Mat Classic at Tacoma Friday and Saturday after booking top-four finishes last Saturday in the big regional qualifying meet at Northwest Christian.
The local crew plans to depart today, Thursday, for the event at the Tacoma Dome.
The all-B part of the classification will have 12 wrestlers competing for the six medals which will be awarded. The four qualifiers for each weight from the east side will mix it up with three from the central part of the state and five from teams on the west side.
Colfax Saturday at Colbert placed sixth among the 16 teams from 1B and 2B schools on the east side of the state with 70 points.
Reardan's team, which booked a power run at the south end meet here the previous week, also dominated at Colbert with 269.5 points. Finishing second was Selkirk, a 1B school, which totaled 127 points.
Reardan qualified 17 wrestlers for the state action.
Also ahead of Colfax were Springdale at 84, Wilbur/Creston 78 and Liberty with 72.
Knauff's second-place finish in the 145 class booked 17 points for Garfield/Palouse. His team edged the Pomeroy entry by a point.
Knauff and Colfax wrestlers Garrett Phillips and Dane Hall advanced to the title rounds Saturday at Colbert, but wound up finishing in second place after being stopped by same Reardan foes who stopped them at Colfax the previous week.
Phillips was pinned by Ethan Hull of Reardan at 1:20 in the title round, and Hall was stopped by Justis Anderson on a 1-9 decision. Knauff came closest to a title, but was stopped by Thomas Perryman of Reardan 4-7.
Nolan Burrill placed third in the 106 class to make the state trip, and Chris Jones placed fourth in the 138 class.
Sophomore Augie Allenbach placed fifth in the 220 class to qualify as an alternate and will make the trip with the team.
106-Burrill bye, to Tristan Kitt-Springdale 4-8, pinned Cody Higgs-ACH 3:38 for third place.
113-Phillips bye, pinned Chad Doyen-Republic 1:32, pinned by Hull-Reardan 1:20.
138-Jones over Justin Chapman-Davenport 12-0, pinned by Tristan Cantry-Selkirk 5:45, pinned David Just-Waitsburg 5:01, to Ethan Tesch-Wilbur/Creston 5-7 for fourth place.
145-Knauff over Alex Diviney 15-2, over Gunnar Hildebrandt-Republic 6-4, to Perryman-Reardan 4-7 for second place.
