Asotin's girls finished with a strong fourth quarter to peg a three-point win, 55-52, over Tekoa/Rosalia in a Saturday elimination round at the NE tournament at West Valley. Both teams went into the Saturday with 1-1 records in the first week of tourney play.
The Timberwolves faced the Panthers after being hammered 75-26 by Liberty in the Thursday quarter-final round of the tournament.
In Saturday's elimination, the Timberwolves had a three-point lead after the first quarter, and that shrunk just a point, 18-17, at the break. They still had the edge after the third quarter, but Asotin pegged a five-point edge in the last frame to take the edge.
Kylan Hernandez scored 23 points to lead the Panthers' comeback after they fell behind by as many at 10 points.
The Panthers finished with a 20-29 mark from the toss line off 25 fouls by the Timberwolves. The T-wolves hit 10 points off the line.
Senior Hannah Beach led the Timberwolves with 22 points in her last game, and Tatiana Mendoza, also a senior, hit eight. Sophomore Jayda Ford hit 10.
Tekoa/Rosalia finished with a 6-16 record for the season.
The Tekoa/Rosalia boys, who were stopped 68-27 by Wilbur/Creston in the NE district opener, were smothered 67-38 by Springdale in the Saturday round to wrap up their season.
