A new website, snow make-up days and a baseball arrangement were discussed at the Colfax School Board meeting Monday night, Feb. 13.
Superintendent Jerry Pugh opened the meeting with a demonstration of a newly re-designed district website, which he worked on with Tony Lewis, director of technology.
“Very nice,” said Board President David Nails. “That was much needed.”
Pugh then informed the board of a request from LaCrosse to allow its students to play baseball in Colfax. At least one boy has expressed interest. The board approved the agreement.
After going over several Washington State School Directors’ Association policies for consideration and review, the board discussed what to do about the scheduled March 13 board meeting, a date when Pugh will be in Wenatchee at the Washington Association of School Administrators’ Small Schools Conference.
The board voted to cancel the meeting and meet March 27 for a single session that month.
Pugh then announced the district will use Thursday and Friday, March 2-3, for snow makeup days. This year students will be in school all-day that Thursday and a half-day Friday.
Board member Terry Huber suggested the March 3 day could be taken off because the two dates coincide with state basketball dates in Spokane.
Colfax has lost one day and one half day because of weather this school year.
“I can’t express enough appreciation for the support we’ve had from the community this winter,” Pugh told the Gazette later.
The district schedules an 182-day calendar year with flexibility to make the required 180 days.
The board will meet again Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Jennings Elementary library.
