Potlatch photographer Charlie Wheeler, first place winner in the bird and mammal division in the 2016 Palouse Chapter of the National Audubon Society photo contest, exhibits wildlife photography the month of March at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn.

The exhibit will include northwest birds and mammals printed on canvas, metal and paper. The exhibit runs from March 5-26, with the opening reception March 5 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Compassion closet

Next compassion closet at Macedonia Baptist Church in Colfax will be March 18 from 10 a.m. until noon. This is a free clothing and household item giveaway that is open to everyone. Men's, women's and children's clothing, baby items, shoes, toys, books and household items are available, according to Pastor Tim Wall.

The church is also accepting donations for the closet. Items especially needed right now are men's and children's clothing in all sizes. For more information or to set up a time to drop off donations, please contact the church at 397-3907.

Wheeler calls himself an amateur photographer, but when he switched from film to digital five years ago he decided to get serious about his photography. Most of the bird photos are local but he travels a bit for the mammal images.

Wheeler won first place in the bird and mammal division in the 2016 Palouse Chapter of the National Audubon Society photo contest.

Rosalia

Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club will meet March 1 at the Rosalia United Methodist Church for a 1 p.m. dessert. Cheryl Gillespie is the hostess. Members are asked to note the change of location.

Guest speaker will be Brian Green who operates a greenhouse business near Cheney and is the former greenhouse manager at Spokane Community College. His presentation will be on new cultivars available for the 2017 season.

Members will also judge the Butterfly Youth Posters so they can be entered into the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs state contest, which is open to all youth grades one through high school. The posters must be sponsored by Rosalia Garden Club.

Contact the district and local poster chairman Terrie Tucker for further information. Monetary awards will be given at the state convention in June at Everett.
