The Sand Road project near Pullman is expected to resume in March, Public Works Director Mark Storey reported to county commissioners Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Storey reported that rock-crushing work was completed Feb. 17 and crews are now coordinating how to remove equipment from off the site while following newly-posted load limits on area roads.
Some lighter equipment has been removed while Public Works awaits cold mornings to potentially approve hauling out heavier equipment.
“We have to sit in somewhat of a holding pattern this time of year,” Storey said.
Last fall, 3.5 miles of the four-mile, $1.8 million road safety project were finished.
What remains is to build a base and realign the road for the last half-mile.
Due to high rainfall in October, the project was later put on hold to wait out the winter.
Storey indicated that the rock work put down last fall is in good shape.
“Actually, it looks really good,” he told commissioners.
Once complete, the project work will widen the road to 28-30 feet from 24-to-26-feet.
