Pomona meet

Whitman County Pomona Grange will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Wilcox Grange followed by a noon potluck. The program will be a speaker on agriculture in the classroom and will be open to the public. There will be handouts and information on curriculum for the public and educators.

Library Board meeting

The Whitman County Library Board of Trustees’ next meeting is set for Monday, March 20, at 4 p.m. in the Colfax Library. These meetings are open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Shirley Cornelius at the library.

Palouse YMCA

spring break camp

The YMCA of the Palouse is offering Spring Break Day Camp to give kids on the Palouse an adventurous, active and healthy Spring Break April 3-7.

This year, Y campers will “Spring Into Action,” by connecting with local businesses and organizations to learn how to positively impact and become active members of the community.

The Camp will meet at Sunnyside Elementary from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours available. And, to ensure that all youth have the chance to experience camp, the Y works with DSHS and offers financial assistance. They will also offer free lunches to campers that qualify.

Clarkston author

to lead sessions

at Dahmen barn

Clarkston author Paula Coomer will lead a day-long workshop at Dahmen Barn March 25 titled "The Fun and Surprising World of Plant-Based Foods, " and follow up with an evening workshop March 29 on gluten-free living.

The March 25 workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes lunch plus morning and afternoon snacks from recipes in Paula's cookbook. The cost is $85 with registrations required by March 21. The gluten topic is from 6 to 9 p.m. March 29 costs $45 with registrations required by March 27. Registrations may be made online from the calendar listings for the classes.

A former RN whose career was focused on wellness and public health, Coomer has worked as a university instructor of writing and literature. Her books include the food memoir Blue Moon Vegetarian and the cookbook Blue Moon Vegan.

St. Paddy's fête

set at Palouse

Palouse Arts Council will sponsor its 14th annual St. Paddy's Day in Palouse event Friday, March 17, at Palouse Community Center. Irish music by Paul Smith and Potatohead, traditional dancing and special guests will be featured.

Irish soda bread and Cougar Gold cheese will be available for snacking, with a no-host bar with beer and wine.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 10-and-over with under-10 free.

Chapter AF met March 13 at Peace Lutheran Church with Joann Wood as hostess. Fifteen members responded to roll call.

Elected and installed as officers for 2017-2018 were Tina Scholz-president, Linda Marler-vice president, Tammy Lewis-recording secretary, Robyn Tramposch-corresponding secretary, Karen Groom-treasurer, Nancy Waldron-chaplain, Cathy White-guard.

Chapter AF was founded on March 9, 100 years ago. The chapter celebrated with a special cake served by the hostess.

The next meeting will be March 27 at the Courtyard hosted by Charli Hochsprung with Ann Marra as co-hostess. Liane Smith has the program.
