Ten Colfax junior girls will seek DYW crown

Ten Colfax High School junior girls will compete at the Colfax Distinguished Young Women competition Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Colfax High School auditorium. Theme of the competition will be "Wild, Wild West."

Competing in the Rhinestone Cowgirls group will be Emma Neu, daughter of Todd and Donnett Neu; Jantzen Larsen, daughter of Rance and Denise Larsen; Zoe Burt, daughter of Shawn and Janni Burt; Hailey Aase, daughter of Bryson and Lisa Aase, and Kat Wiley, daughter of Michael and Mary Wiley.

Competing in the Country Cuties group will be Sara Whelchel, daughter of Randy and Jill Whelchel; Alicia Knee, daughter of Ben and Sharon Miller; Josie Riebold, daughter of Tom and Susan Riebold; Kiah Miller, daughter of Kent and Diane Miller, and Abbie Miller, daughter of Brad and Michelle Miller.

Taylor Garcia, Distinguished Young Woman winner last year, and alternate winners Sarah Kraut and Madelyne Avila will participate in the program along with Lauren Claassen, Colfax senior who qualified to represent LaCrosse in the state competition at last year's DYW competition here.

The winner of the Saturday competition will advance to the state DYW event this summer in Pullman.

Admission to Saturday's competition will be $8 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased from the entrants. Proceeds are used for the scholarship prize fund which normally totals approximately $5,000.
