Will Pullman's newest elementary school mascot be the Kangaroos, Kittens, Kickers, Kicking Mules, Knights, Knicks, Koalas, Kodiaks, Komets or Koyotes?
Those names and more could be submitted to the Pullman School District for consideration as the mascot for Pullman's fourth elementary school. The district last week put out a call for mascot suggestions.
Nominations are being accepted from Pullman students, staff and residents and will be accepted by the district until April 6.
The call came with guidelines. The district asks that recommended mascots have some connection to the area in terms of biology, geology or history. Additionally, the district would like submissions to follow a pattern of mascot name alliteration at Pullman which now has the Jefferson Jaguars, Franklin Foxes and Sunnyside Superstars. The district noted the sound blend is not required, but preferred.
Mascot nominations should not conflict with other schools in the district or surrounding districts. Additionally, the district would like the mascot to generate a teaching and learning opportunity for students.
Selecting the name of Kamiak for the school was done by a similar process, with members of the community submitting ideas for consideration to the Pullman School District board of directors.
The mascot nomination form can be found on the district website at http://www.pullmanschools.org, and paper copies are available in the district office at 240 SE Dexter Street. The nomination form also asks for school color ideas to go along with the mascot.
Nominations must be received in person at the district office or via email to [email protected].
