Steve Berger and Mark Harding work to put up signs for the new furniture clearance outlet opening in Colfax this weekend.
A furniture clearance outlet is coming to Colfax. Higginson's Home Furnishings of Pullman plans a clearance outlet at the Waite building on Main Street with sales up to 90 percent off each Saturday.
“It will be every Saturday in the foreseeable future,” said Jody Borroughs with Higginson's. “There will be factory closeouts, scratch and dents and more, all up to 90 percent off.”
Higginson's has used the Waite building for furniture storage for several years, and the store has operated off site sales in the past there.
“Those worked out really well,” commented Borroughs.
The clearance outlet brings the Higginson’s store total up to four, with the main store and mattress outlet on South Grand Avenue in Pullman and a flooring store on Bishop Boulevard in Pullman.
Borroughs said the clearance outlet was an idea that made sense.
“We've been working toward it for a while,” she said. “This is a really good opportunity to bring in that kind of discount retail for the community.”
Borroughs said “significant discounts” will be seen throughout the entire store on everything from bedroom furniture to dining to living room and bathroom.
“It is packed over there,” she said. “We've had to stop bringing inventory over.”
The building has been used as a furniture store in the past, with the most recent one having been operated by Mary and Lee Higginson as Hunter's Furniture. Hunter's closed in 2010.
The Higginson's son, Michael Higginson, owns the building in Colfax, as well as the Higginson's stores in Pullman. Prior to its days as Hunter's furniture, the building was operated by Lou Grimes of Colfax as a furniture outlet for nearly 23 years.
Borroughs expects the Colfax location will be a good one for the clearance outlet.
“The Higginson family used to have the furniture store there at that location, and we decided that was a really good location with good exposure on Main Street,” she said. “And we wanted to utilize it for more than just storage.”
With inventory stored there for the last several years, the windows had been blacked out. Last week, the black film was removed.
“It's much brighter on the inside now,” commented Borroughs.
The Waite building is located at 220 N. Main Street, and the clearance outlet will run every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning this Saturday, March 25.
Borroughs said financing options will be available for buyers, and delivery services will also be available. Price of delivery services will be dependent on the furniture items purchased and the distance to the destination.
