Fred Meyer lists Empire for rewards
Tekoa's Empire Theatre has been accepted as a participating member of Fred Meyer's Community Rewards program. Theatre supporters who shop at Fred Meyer can link their store rewards card to the Empire Theatre under the community rewards link at FredMeyer.com. At the end of each fiscal year, they will donate a percentage of the profit made from those purchases to the theatre.
Customers will still earn rewards points, fuel points and rebates which are mailed separately to each individual.
The reward cards are available at the customer service desk of any Fred Meyer store.

Kids creativity
day set a Dahmen
A special day for children ages 8 to 12 will be at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown Thursday, April 6, during the spring vacation week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day has three creative topics and includes lunch. The cost is $40. Minimum enrollment is six and maximum is 12. Registration closes the end of the day Monday, April 3. If the minimum enrollment is not met by that date, this event will be cancelled.
Carole Galloway, a FIMO clay specialist will show how to create zebras, elephants, hippos, horses and cows using golf tees for legs and FIMO clay for the body. The finished pieces will be baked and ready so kids can take them home.
Culinary expert, Julie Hartwig will lead the cooking topic where kids make pizzas that have lots of choices for toppings.
Debi Robinson-Smith in the clay studio will help youngsters create items that will be fired, so pick up will be at a later date.
Library trivia
contests
Next trivia contests led by Whitman County Library's information professionals will be at Rosalia's Brass Rail Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m. and at Colfax Hyde Out Thursday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m.
Next trivia contests for kids and families will be Wednesday, April 5, at 1 p.m., at the Garfield Library and Monday, April 10, at 6 p.m., and the Endicott Food Center. Team entries can be up to eight people or individuals can just show up to be placed on a team.
Masks exhibit
opens at Dahmen
The "Masks Revealing the Artist” exhibit opens April 2 at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. with the artists present. The masks are made of a variety of mediums including metal, leather, papier mache', ceramic and found objects. Additional 2D art on the mask theme will be exhibited and most will be for sale.
The idea for the masks came about when Palouse Women Artists member Shannon Goose taught a mask-making class to the Palouse group.
Also, Goose’s photos of her masks depict her journey to healing, and the photos created by Shannon and Linda Stone are included in the exhibit.
Goose has also written a book of poems, Soul Whispers, which will be available for purchase in the Barn’s gift shop.
CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS
Thrifty Grandmothers
Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers Club met Monday, March 13, in the basement of the library for its monthly meeting. Eighteen members attended. Business conducted included a donation to Colfax Junior Rodeo of $500.
Kathy Merry was welcomed as a new member.
New officers installed by Diane Appel included Bonnie Smith, president; Joyce Colvin, vice president; Diane Appel, secretary, and Lucile Largent, treasurer.
WSU Retirees
Adult Day Care Services in Pullman will be the topic at the WSU Retirees Association’s monthly meeting March 28, 1:30 p.m. at the Pullman Senior Center in city hall.
Jessica Rivers, a social service professional for Circles of Caring will present the program and answer questions. Circles of Caring provides day health services to vulnerable adults and the elderly, allowing participants to remain at home with family and friends
Dan Coonrad, president of the retirees, said their meetings are open to the pubic. Refreshments are served at each meeting.
