The City of Palouse may get a new maintenance shop building as sites are being considered, including next to the new solar farm or at the site of the city's old wooden, barn-like shop on Main Street.
For years now, Palouse has had $80,000 set aside for a shop to be built, according to needs directed by Public Works Superintendent Dwayne Griffin.
“He's just investigating,” said Mayor Michael Echanove. “Looking at numbers and alternatives.”
Echanove indicated that once a new shop is built, the city may or may not keep the old one, which was evaluated after the flood of 1996 and determined to be structurally sound.
“It was old even then,” said Echanove.
The mayor has left it up to Griffin.
“He can move forward as he sees fit,” Echanove said.
