Serving Whitman County since 1877

Pullman Fireside building will become dental clinic

The former Fireside building in Pullman was purchased recently, selling for $1,850,000 to Paragon Northwest LLC out of Yakima.

Paragon Northwest is serving as the contractor for the building, which will be converted to a dental office by Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic.

“We're working on putting a dental facility there,” said Joe Sevigny, contractor with Paragon Northwest.

Gina Popovic, vice president of external affairs with Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, said the organization has more than 20 sites in Oregon and Washington.

The clinics the organization operates also include medical clinics, but Popovic said they chose not to place a medical clinic in Pullman.

“We do medical, but we're not looking to do it in Pullman because of what's available in Moscow,” she said.

“Our mission is to serve people living in poverty, especially the kids,” added Popovic. “We're not looking for insurance patients.”

The endeavor to establish the dental clinic in Pullman actually came at the request of Whitman County Health Director Troy Henderson.

“The health department asked us to come in,” said Popovic. “He reached out to us and said there was a need.”

Popovic said it was important to the organization to follow through with this request.

“When the health department reaches out, that says a lot,” she said. “We have the infrastructure to help these remote sites.”

The sale closed in late January, and Sevigny noted he has been meeting with the organization on the design process. Popovic said there is no timeline at this time for construction or opening.

She also said a name has yet to be decided upon.

“We don't know the name,” she said. “We'll pick something that is going to resonate with the community.”
