Serving Whitman County since 1877
The new vintage Route 26 Market is set to make its debut in Colfax this weekend at the Jennings Elementary School gym. It is booked Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, with the Friday show from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday booked from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We’re closing in on it,” said Debi Anderson, one of the event organizers.
The market will have a total of 15 vendors, including Colfax businesses Hen House Chicks and the Dusty Attic. Vendors on hand will have an assortment of items, including vintage and antique items, repurposed and up-cycled, signs, collegiate wear, woodworks, furniture, jewelry, soaps, lotion, body butters and yard art.
“There’s a real variety,” said Tami Schwartz, another event organizer.
Also on hand will be massage therapist Lynnea Vantrease, who will provide chair massages.
The Route 26 Market has been purposefully planned to coincide with Washington State University’s Mom’s Weekend.
“We’re hoping that will bring people,” said Schwartz. “We’re hoping to attract them and get them to stop in Colfax.”
Directional signs with a pink tractor will point motorists toward the market.
“Pink tractors, all of our signage has pink tractors. That’s our logo,” said Schwartz. “The real thing will be at the show. Come take your picture with the pink tractor.”
Anderson and Schwartz said they hope to be able to make the market an annual event.
“We’re just hoping it’s a good show,” said Schwartz. “If it goes well, we’d like to do it annually, if not bi-annually, so hopefully we can get some good attendance.”
Anderson previously told the Gazette that they wanted to be able to hit a new niche in Colfax.
“We thought this would be so much fun. I am excited for it,” she said. “Vintage markets are the in thing right now. It’s just the place to be.”
There is a $5 admission fee to the market, which is good for both days. Those 12 and younger are free.
