Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Port of Whitman County last week awarded a contract to Clark’s Roofing of Pullman for a roof repair replacement project at Boyer Park & Marina.
Port staffer Kara Riebold told port commissioners at a meeting a month ago that the roof of a pump house at Boyer had been leaking, and insects had also been getting in through the roof. The bid includes blowing insulation in the roof that is more resistant to bugs, she said.
The bid from Clark’s roofing came in at less than $10,000, much lower than the budgeted amount for the project.
“That budget number is usually higher than what we think it’s going to be,” said Joe Poiré, Port executive director. “But this budget was double the bid.”
Poiré said the Port set the budget higher because bids for work at Boyer usually come in higher.
“I was pleasantly surprised that we got a normal bid like you would get if the repair was being done in Colfax or Pullman,” he said. “A lot of times companies want more for going down there.”
The project was bid under the small works roster, and the roof replacement is set to be done by the end of the month.
“It’s underway right now. The completion date is April 28 or 30,” said Riebold. “It will be done by the end of the month, weather permitting.”
The Port also recently purchased a new lawn mower for Boyer. The Port sought pricing bids from three equipment dealers and went with the low bid from Papé Machinery out of Colfax to purchase a John Deere riding mower for $19,241.
