Colfax softball takes double wins

Colfax softball players took two wins Monday at Asotin and two last last Thursday at Davenport to move their NE league record to 6-0 with another league pair booked against the Broncos at Ritzville Friday.

The Bulldogs bagged the string of four league wins after being hammered 20-5 by Colton Wednesday, April 5, on the Colfax turf.

Monday at Asotin Colfax dropped the Panthers 8-5 in the first game and 13-9 in the second game.

In the first game, Abbie Miller allowed the Panthers just five hits and walked just two batters.

Colfax pegged a 3-0 lead after three frames, and Asotin came back to tie it up 3-3 after the fifth inning before the Bulldogs stacked five runs in the sixth to decide it.

In the 13-9 win in the second game at Asotin, Colfax notched a 2-0 lead in the first inning and remained in front for the rest of the game. They banked five more runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth, enough of a margin to withstand an eight-run charge by the hosts in the last three innings.

Becker led a 13-hit offense with two homers and a single, and Cheyanne Stokes booked three singles and a double.

Colfax starter Maddy Shrope allowed three hits and walked eight while pitching into the fifth inning. Miller came back in relief in the fifth and allowed five hits to finish it.

Coach Michelle Miller credited the Colfax infield with solid play with Greta Geier and third base and Shyah Antoine at first, and Miller and Stokes in the middle at shortstop and second.

Thursday at Davenport, the Bulldogs took out the Gorillas 9-6 in the first game and 5-2 in a close second game. Miller pitched a total of 14 innings in taking both wins.

In the first game, Colfax rapped 16 hits off Gorilla pitcher Sydney Zeller with Desi Brown and Becker each getting three hits.

Colfax scored five runs over the first two innings, and Davenport came back to tie it up at 5-5 after the fifth. The game went to 6-6, and Colfax nailed it down with three runs in the seventh.

Miller allowed seven hits in the first game, walked five and struck out two.

In the second game, Colfax rolled up five runs while Davenport was shutout over the first five innings. Miller allowed six hits but walked just two Davenport batters.

Both Gorilla runs were scored in the sixth.

Becker and Miller each had two hits, and Becker and Lindgren each tagged doubles.

Zeller also pitched the second game for Davenport.
