DOT will review: County okays tow site zone change

A .6-acre parcel of land was approved by county commissioners Monday to change from agricultural to a limited heavy commercial district.

Grand J Unlimited, LLC, owners of the location at 4522 State Route 272 requested a change to use the land for a towing business.

The change was approved by commissioners after no public comment was made at the hearing Monday morning.

In a side issue noted by County Planner Alan Thomson and Katrina Kunz, assistant county planner, the Washington Department of Transportation revisited the site after the county planning commission's review and determined the existing access to the parcel is dangerous because it is located on a bend with a blind spot.

WSDOT decreed the only useable access would be on the east side of the parcel.

The site is about three-quarters of a mile west of the Glenwood road intersection of the highway.

“You'll need to have that conversation with the DOT,” Thomson told representatives of Grand J Unlimited who were at the hearing.

Thomson pointed out that WSDOT's ruling is a separate issue from the county matter of zoning.

“It doesn't alter the changing of the zone,” he said.
