Colfax senior pass price cut

The Colfax School Board approved a new fee schedule Monday night which includes a cut from $40 to $20 for a senior citizens' annual sports pass. The pass allows for a year's entry to basketball, wrestling, volleyball and football.

“We value our senior citizens and want them at the games,” said Superintendent Jerry Pugh.

The change comes after a controversy last fall when a longtime practice of giving out free senior citizens' “Bulldog Passes” was abruptly ended.

The new policy went into effect at the start of the 2016-17 school year, after district staff members went to a training and learned that the practice was not allowed. Pugh confirmed it with the state auditor's office.

Over the years, senior citizens picked up Bulldog passes by showing a driver's license at the school office.
