CU Fair returns Friday

The annual Colton-Uniontown Fair will take place Friday in its second year of the new configuration following the opening of the new ag shop, expanded school and parking lot.

Added events for the 2017 fair include guinea pig fitting and showing and Little Squealers, in which kindergartners through second-graders sign up to show another exhibitor’s pig, with older kids helping.

The Colton-Uniontown Fair will include FFA and 4H competitors from Colton, Uniontown and Pullman. Running out of space for smaller animals, the fair was not opened to further contestants.

Friday’s events begin with breakfast sandwiches served by the Colton Boosters at 8 a.m. as the FFA plant sale opens in the greenhouse, followed by market pigs showing under tents in the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Fitting and showing for small animals also starts at 8:30 a.m. inside the ag shop. At 10 a.m., 4H demonstrations begin with 25 kids signed up, giving presentations on varied subjects.

“It will be a fun surprise,” said Mandy White, exhibits manager, on the range of subject matter.

The 25 is more than double that which signed up last year.

Little Squealers sets off at 11 a.m.

Horses are at 1 p.m. along with beef. At 2 p.m., sheep and goat showing begins.

All day, home arts and educational displays will be seen on the walls of the ag building.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, potato salad and more will be served for lunch.

All events will be centrally located in the school parking lot and adjacent field.

“Come to the fair,” White said. “We would like to thank all of our sponsors. We’re very appreciative for what they do for us.”
